The Salt Path has been my book through a hard time in my own life
The Salt Path has been my book through a hard time in my own life

I have been drawn to The Salt Path by Raynor Winn since 2019. The themes run close to home, and I have a similar urge (although a very privileged one, with a home to come back to) to pack everything up and go on an adventure with just a backpack (Cheryl Strayed stoked this last time) simmering under the surface. I have been a bit worried that this book would blow oxygen into this desire.

Before starting, I put up a message on instagram asking for advice if this book would break my heart and get my suitcase packed simultaneously. The answer was very much yes, but that it was totally worth it.

The Salt Path is a story of loss and adventure. A story of living on the edge of life. I have certainly felt times that I have lived at the edge of life. I was hooked straight away, even though the book does cut to the bone.

Raynor's writing is addictive, down to earth and human. It's so hard not to sit and read this book in one sitting, but I tried to slow down the reading to enjoy it, to absorb the messages. I absolutely adored this book. I recommend this book if you're in a good emotional space, as it is excellent, but it will have you drawn in and invested. If you're looking for a lighthearted read, this is not it. But if you're looking for a lovely, heartbreaking, interesting, educational adventure, that will take you a while to get over, this is for you.

I have already put the sequel on order at my library and cannot wait for the film to come out in April!
