Over the years since starting Making Roots, I have written a number of product reviews. I usually write them to highlight products I have loved or perhaps think could use some improvement, in the hope to save you money and reduce waste. I have been so excited to write and publish this review, as this product has become one of my favourite products of all time.
I bought the Ethique bliss bar around last April/ May as it was on special offer in Holland and Barratt. These bars are not a cheap outlay, so as a budget zero waster when possible, I had to be sure it would be good.
I have sensitive combination skin, with patches of really dry skin and areas that don’t like heavy moisture but I am very sensitive to strongly scented products, that can make me itchy, my eyes sting and can make my skin inflamed. I always try and cleanse or wash my face before bed, avoiding single use plastic wipes that aren't great for my skin, or the planet. All together this can be a bit of a handful of needs to be met and for a while I had been really lazy. Finding a really good make up remover that is sensitive, is plastic free, my skin likes and doesn’t dry it out, is easy to use (lazy girl skincare) and most importantly- works, is tricky. Which is why I am so in love with the Ethique bar.
It ticks so many boxes in skincare. It’s a powerhouse of a product. I use this to wash my face sometimes twice a day, once in the morning before my moisturiser and at night if I wear make up. It completely removes makeup so I don’t need any additional remover, whilst cleansing and leaving my face feeling soft.
I simply wash my face as I would with soap, but this is no soap, it’s thick and luxurious. You can see below there is little foam but do not fret, it's working wonders without it. There is no tight face feeling post wash. In the summer when my face is less dry, I could even wash my face with the bar and not apply moisturiser afterwards, which is usually unheard of for my dry skin. It doesn’t cause any soreness around my eyes as sometimes other cleansers do, but of course this is probably highly dependant on different people. The photo at the bottom shows my skin post a cleanse and jojoba oil.
This bar has been in my backpack to the Outer Hebrides, it’s been on flights, on trains, to work encase I need it, on luxury weekends away. Being a bar, you do need to look after your friend. Keep it dry between use, don’t leave it on a wet surface and don’t leave on wet surfaces (like your shower) as it will melt- I made this mistake and my bar has a little dent.
I have been using this product for a year, I love an 'empty jar review' but I don’t think that will be possible, as this bar is going to take many months to years to use up. Which is so exciting as I have my little super product with me, that I can travel with, take in the van (this alone is so exciting for times we have limited space and capacity to do skincare). I love that I have my favourite skincare in a little bar that I can throw in my handbag.
I have a handful of absolutely favourite zero waste swaps and this may even be my number one. Skincare is different for us all, if you aren't sure if it will suit you, Ethique do smaller samples, so you can reduce the outlay for giving it a go. I really hope if you do try it, you love it as much as I do.
I have no affliation with Ethique and have not worked with them in anyway. I paid for this product personally.
